Drums Please....

Summer, summer, summer time!

We are almost one month into summer break over here. As a child, I hated summer break. Mostly because I lived in the sticks and could only see my friends at school or church. Some summers were spent in Georgia with my cousins. I had two sets of aunts and uncles so my siblings and I would split the difference. Once I got to college, I didn't take classes the first summer and instead worked at the school district office back home. After that, every summer was at Mississippi State or working my internship.

Even now, as a parent, I'm still not a huge fan of summer break. Especially when I'm in Stay At Home mom mode. The constant eating and asking to get on their tablets. Dealing with the 'I'm bored's. It just gets to be a bit much. At least when I'm working, I could afford summer care. (Why is it so freaking expensive?!?!)

So yall know what I did? I came up with all these grand plans of how I was going to keep them intellectually stimulated for the next 2.5 months. The local reading program. An I'm bored jar. All the things. You know how much of that we've done over the past month?

Now truth be told, I was run ragged by the end of the year. 5th grade promotion ceremony. 8th grade masquerade ball. Volunteering at field day. And all the meetings leading up to these events. Hubs gone for two weeks so I'm flying solo to wrap up the school year. One thing I'm good at is avoiding discomfort and being unemployed is uncomfortable af. I said yes to so much since January, even I said I was doing most, which I would never admit to in a normal setting, but this ain't normal.

Stay focused, Mon.

Anyway, like I was saying. I didn't have the motivation nor the desire to herd 3 kids who had no desire to be herded. So I let them veg. (Hell they are still vegging to be honest.)

Our big vacation was last month, and that was a welcomed change of scenery. Germany loves its gray skies and rain. 7 days on the Mediterranean was just what the mental health doctor ordered.

Nature always has a way of replenishing you...even if you gotta bring the kids with.

So now it's July, let's see where this month takes us.

What have you gotten into so far? Any books you'd recommend? Any vacations taken or planned? Or if you are like me, are you just enjoying the lack of homework and adhering to a tight schedule?
