Made for this

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.” LUKE 1:30 NIV

This weekend after another doctors appointment for Kai, I took my (not so little anymore) little ones to the park. I pushed them on the swing, watched them play so carefree, and thanked God for allowing me to be their mom. I could feel it…the favor that is!

I bet you remember the first time you saw your child’s face. No matter how that came to be, you were chosen from above to be their mama, mom, mommy, mother—how wonderful is that? Do you remember the first time you looked into their eyes? Maybe it caused you to be a little scared (How will I be able to take care of this little one?) or overjoyed (I can’t believe I’m actually a mommy!) or both—or anything in between. Nevertheless, you were called (chosen, specially equipped) to be their mom, just as Mary was called to be Jesus’s mother. Everything you’ve gone through to this point has brought you here. You’ve gained strength, wisdom, and so much more to help bring them up to be who they were made to be. Through it all, there will be joys, tears, laughter, and sorrow. God has laid out a beautiful path for them, a path we cannot see and may never understand. They will go through good times and bad times, and you’ll be able to help guide them through. God’s plan and beautiful purpose, which He has so lovingly put together for them, will play out. But remember, Mama, it’s God’s plan, not yours, for their lives. He’s given you an amazing task and opportunity to raise these children to know that He is good, and He’s given your children an amazing task too—to fearlessly live out the plan He has for their lives. But know, Mama, that through it all, He’s by your side, and He made you for this!

Made For This!

Just because times get hard and situations become stressful doesn’t mean that God isn’t in control. Just because I have chosen to see all the seemingly bad things that are happening to or around me doesn’t mean that favor and blessings aren’t flowing as well. What we choose to dwell on and acknowledge in this life is simply that…a choice! Yes, bad things happen and yes hard times can seem never ending BUT God is still God-ing in all things, in every situation, every single day! As believers we have to make it our mission to set our hopes and focus on the immense favor that has been placed on our lives. We have to choose to live a life that acknowledges the favor that we have.

Sometimes as a mother it’s hard to see the favor when we are experiencing hardships or challenges. When our children hurt or are struggling we forget that they are not solely ours but that they too are children of God. I’m reminded often that Mary, mother of Jesus, watched her child be unjustly beaten and crucified.

Let’s face it, being a mom is full of responsibility. It’s tough yet rewarding. We need God’s strength more on some days than others. Through it all, know that God is working in and through all things for not only you but also for your kids (and everyone else in the world)—from the beginning of time to the end. He has so many wonderful purposes and blessings planned for your children. What a gift it is that He thought of you to be their mom! You’ve got this!

Be encouraged Mamas!!
