When you meet Dr. Lisa Flowers you have met a true force of nature. She is a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, Soror, and DOPE BLACK DOCTOR! Dr. Flowers, a native of "Da Bronx" (cause you gotta say it like that), is a proud AfroLatina living and working in Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Lisa Flowers joined the faculty of the Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics in 1999. She is a professor and established clinical researcher in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Emory and the director of Colposcopy at Grady Memorial Hospital Cancer Center of Excellence. Dr. Flowers is a graduate of Oberlin College and received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Magee-Women’s Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania.

She is the medical director and founder of the Cervical Cancer Foundation, a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization in Atlanta, GA. The mission of the Cervical Cancer Foundation is to increase awareness of human papillomavirus infection and provide clinical services for the detection and prevention of cervical cancer in the US and around the world. Under her leadership, in 2009 the Cervical Cancer Foundation conducted the first annual cervical cancer “Walk for Hope” drawing over 300 community members. The walk has grown to a 5K “Run and Walk for Hope” supported by well-known Atlanta community leaders and an array of organizations including the America Cancer Society, CDC, CancerQuest and Emory University.

Dr. Flowers has received several local and national awards including the Women In Government’s Presidential Leadership Award for Medicine, the Center for Black Women’s Wellness Health Trailblazer Award, Unsung Heroine Award from the Center for Women at Emory University, the Latino Health Excellence Award from the Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia and recently the Woman in Healthcare Leadership Award from the Atlanta Businesswomen’s Association.

Understanding her accolades better prepares you to receive all of the Black Girl Magic is Dr. Lisa Flowers! She literally sprinkles is every where she goes! And trust me this woman GOES!! I have watched firsthand how passionate she is and the extent to which she honors the oath to "first do no harm!" She believes in providing stellar patient care but more importantly she believes that the real powers lies in educating the patient so that they are fully aware of what their health and wellness concerns and needs.

I truly enjoyed our conversation and the wealth of knowledge that she provided. Check out interview as she unpacks some how to self advocate for your healthcare, the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccinations, and so many other gems.
